Historically, every time a new technological tool has been introduced, it has caused uncertainty and concern. From the invention of the printing press and paper in the 15th century to the recent popularity of drones as a transportation system, people have always feared the unknown. However, over time, these tools have been accepted and now form an integral part of our daily lives.
The invention of the first mechanical calculator in the 17th century caused concern among mathematicians and professionals who feared being replaced by the machine. However, today, having basic math skills and knowledge of how to use a calculator are a requirement for many jobs and are taught in the educational system.
Similarly, knowledge of the principles of formal logic is important to operate a language processing platform like ChatGPT. These principles are the foundation for understanding how the platform can interpret and respond to commands and questions in natural language, and a solid understanding of formal logic can also help identify and resolve technical problems in the platform.
It is important that the educational system and training institutions do not miss the opportunity to incorporate these new technological tools into our educational practices instead of prohibiting them. In the end, these tools are an opportunity to improve our skills and knowledge and make our lives easier and more efficient.
The ability of language processing platforms to easily generate acceptable texts is impressive, but their true value lies in the ability of educated users to achieve great things. The combination of these educated users is what can transform the world. It is important to recognize that their potential goes beyond simply writing words on a calculator and expecting a result without intention and control, and to focus on their true potential and impact on society.
